Life’s most persistent & urgent question is: “What are you doing for others?”
Martin Luther King Jr.
Welcome to Year 5Ba’s class page.
Our class name is Martin Luther King Jr. and we have learnt lots about him as part of our whole school ‘Little People, Big Dreams’ topic. He was an African American minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. We believe Martin Luther King Jr. is a fantastic role model for us because he stood up for injustice, he was never violent and he was a very peaceful man. Martin Luther King Jr. is also a great role model because he never gave up trying for what he wanted to do, which was change the rights for black people.
On our class page you can find out what we are up to in class, resources and upcoming news. We hope you enjoy scrolling through our page…

Farther by Grahame Baker-Smith
Farther by Grahame Baker-Smith is our Read to Write English topic for spring two. We will be using this text as a stimulus to writing descriptive setting nattatives and within our non-fiction unit, letters. Woven between grammar work and short bursts of writing will be poetry and drama. This book will also be our motivation during shared reading lessons where we will delve deep into characters, make comparisons between texts we are familiar with, make inferences and justify our reasoning alongside developing many more reading skills.
During spring two we will be continuing with our topic on angles. Above is the unit narrative outlining what we will be covering in each lesson. Make sure you keep your protractor handy!
