Implementation

We plan and deliver our PSHE curriculum using a whole school approach through a combination of complimentary Schemes of Work: Jigsaw and No Outsiders. Weekly lessons are taught from Jigsaw with all year groups working on the same theme at the same time, thus ensuring thorough and consistent coverage from EYFS to Year 6.

The mindful approach to PSHE is developed in 3 main ways:

  • The ‘Calm Me’ element in each lesson; this consists of breathing techniques, awareness exercises and visualisations, enabling children to quiet their minds, become aware of their thoughts and feelings and manage these positively in their responses.
  • The taught curriculum; lessons provide pupils with opportunities to explore their thoughts and feelings, to expand their emotional vocabulary, explore thoughts-feelings-consequence sequences, build their confidence and express themselves in a safe environment.
  • ‘Pause Points’ in lessons, which ask children to ‘stop and look inside’ to practise observing their thoughts and feelings relating to what they are learning about in that lesson.

Each half term pupils are taught a lesson from the No Outsiders programme through a specific book which focuses on diversity as a whole.
