Home Learning

At Banks Road we have developed a comprehensive programme of ‘Blended Learning’ should the occasion arise where there are further local or national lock downs in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

What is Blended Learning?
If directed by Public Health England, particular groups of pupils, or perhaps the whole school cohort, may be asked to isolate at home. Not much will change for pupils who can continue to come to school – they will continue to be taught lessons in the normal way. If your child is asked to remain at home they can continue to access their learning using a blend of face-to-face teaching and learning using technology.

How will my child access this Home Learning?
We use a range of resources to ensure that any disruption to the education of children at Banks Road is kept to a minimum. We plan to continue to use Class Dojo to post work and resources for pupils along with paper-based home learning packs. Class Dojo is an online, secure platform where teachers can post work and communicate with pupils. Pupils can “show what they know” using photos, videos, drawings, text, PDFs, and links. It’s completely secure as only pupils and their families can access it.

Teachers will post lessons from the following sources:

  • Oak National Academy
  • Ruth Miskin’s Read Write Inc online phonics lessons on YouTube
  • Mathematics Mastery lessons and online resources
  • White Rose maths online resources
  • Literacy Counts online resources
  • We will also be using Zoom to deliver real time, face-to-face lessons

How will school keep in touch with my child if they have to work from home?
At Banks Road we have an experienced Learning Mentor who will make regular telephone calls to families if they are working from home. Class teachers will also stay in touch via Class Dojo and by regularly checking work submitted by the children. If your child has special education needs, the SENCO will keep in regular contact and signpost parents/carers to help if needed.

What if my child gets stuck when doing their work?
We understand that not all parents/carers are teachers! Our class teachers will be on hand to help when they are needed. They can be reached by private messaging on Class Dojo or via their email addresses which are posted on their class pages (see the Children tab above). Teachers aim to have all emails and Class Dojo messages responded to within 24 hours Monday – Friday during term time.
